Commenting on the news that in Wales, ADHD patients are being forced to pay for medication due to NHS GPs refusing shared care with private doctors, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Mental Health, James Evans MS, said:
“As we regretfully know, more than 9,000 children in Wales are currently waiting for an autism or ADHD assessment in Wales, with the wait being extremely worrying for parents.
“It is unfortunate that we are now seeing those ADHD patients being forced to pay for medication due to long NHS waiting lists and the Welsh NHS not recognising private ADHD assessments.
“Now is the time for the Labour Government to ensure the Welsh NHS recognises those who have had a private ADHD assessment. It is wrong that these people need to join an NHS waiting list to be told the same thing again by a different medial professional just receive the medication they require on the NHS.”
