Commenting on the news that families of patients who have died in North Wales have blamed health board inaction, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for North Wales, Darren Millar MS said:
“These tragic deaths were entirely preventable; the Labour Welsh Government should have ensured that action was taken to implement improvements and must accept responsibility, along with Betsi managers, for what's gone wrong.
“I raised concerns back in 2017 with the Health Board about ligature risks at the Ablett Unit and elsewhere following a visit, and was given false assurances that these had been dealt with.
“People reliant on health services in North Wales have been let down by successive Labour Health Ministers in Cardiff Bay who remain so far removed from the issues here.”
Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Mental Health, Gareth Davies MS added:
“It is shameful that Glan Clwyd has gone from one of the best performing hospitals in the UK to one of the very worst performing over the past 20 years.
“We need a more accountable NHS here in Wales where people responsible for failings actually lose their jobs when things go wrong.”
