While welcoming the long-awaited approval of the Cardiff Parkway train station project, the Welsh Conservatives have also expressed concerns about potential inflationary costs due to the delay in this decision and have called for additional ambitious projects to further boost economic growth and alleviate traffic in the region.
Commenting, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure, Peter Fox MS, said:
“After years of delays and uncertainty, it’s about time that the Welsh Government have confirmed this vital piece of infrastructure, which will boost jobs in the region.
“In typical Welsh Government fashion, the dithering and long delays will likely balloon the anticipated cost well above the initial £120m estimate, much like the Heads of the Valley Road and the South Wales Metro.
“The Cardiff Parkway station is positive for commuters in the region, but we now need to see an M4 relief road to compliment the project to alleviate traffic pressures around the Brynglas tunnels and deliver the economic growth that Wales needs.”
