Controversial Gender Bill postponed until after General Election

Responding to the news that plans to introduce a law to ‘create a gender-equal’ Welsh Parliament have been postponed until after the election, Darren Millar MS, Shadow Minister of Constitution, said:

“This Bill shouldn't just be postponed, it should be ditched altogether.

“Candidates should be elected on merit, not because of their gender, or any other protected characteristic.

“The shelving of the Bill during an election campaign suggests that this is a desperate attempt to avoid talking on the campaign trail about the fact that the Labour Party can't define a woman.”
