Commenting on the news that claims have said people died at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board because mental health services had not improved fast enough, Darren Millar MS, Shadow North Wales Minister, said:
“It is an absolute disgrace that so many recommendations have yet to be implemented after more than a decade since they were made.
“That the recommendations have not been implemented in spite of the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board being in special measures for such a long time is scandalous.
“The Welsh Labour Government is directly responsible for these failings and the responsibility lies at the current First Minister, who took the irresponsible decision to remove the Health Board from special measures in the run up to an election for political reasons.
“People deserve an apology from the First Minister and rapid action to address shortcomings.”
Also commenting, Gareth Davies MS, Shadow Mental Health Minister, said:
“The Labour-run Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board continues to let down patients and their families across North Wales who rely on mental health services.
“It's completely inexcusable that despite reports and recommendations being published over the last decade, some are still yet to be implemented.
“The Labour Government must take urgent action to improve mental health services across North Wales, and ensure people receive the healthcare that they rightly deserve.”
