Commenting following his questions to the Labour Finance Minister in the Senedd today, Welsh Conservative Shadow Finance Minister, Peter Fox MS said:
“My questions today centred around Labour’s plans to introduce a toxic tourism tax for Wales. This unpopular tax will hammer the tourism industry as they reel from post-pandemic cost of living pressures, precipitated by Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine.
“Given that 1-in-7 jobs rely on the tourism sector and unemployment continues to rise in Wales sharper than elsewhere in the UK, I am bitterly disappointed to hear that the Labour Finance Minister plans to relentlessly press ahead with this disastrous policy.
“On top of that, to give some relief to families the length and breadth of Wales, I asked the Labour Minister to give a cast iron pledge to not raise income tax at all this Senedd term. Sadly she could not, because we know that Labour wouldn’t hesitate to raise Welsh taxes, if they thought they could get away with it.”
