Commenting on his exchange with the First Minister at FMQs today, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies MS said:
“Inhuman 2-year waits for treatment in our Welsh NHS still stand at nearly 32,000, triple the number waiting 18 months in England, despite them having 18 times our population.
“I asked Mark Drakeford when his Labour Government would get to grips with this unacceptable situation. The First Minister refused to provide a cast-iron commitment to eliminate 2-year waits this year, which will bring no comfort to those people stuck on those never-ending lists.
“I put forward positive proposals like rolling out successful surgical hubs more rapidly here in Wales and giving patients the choice to seek treatment in hospitals with shorter waiting lists.
“Mark Drakeford failed to set a new date for his missed target to eliminate those 2-year waits by March and gave no detail as to where the additional capacity in our Welsh NHS will come from to give hope to those 32,000 waiting for treatment.”
