Responding to the news that children are going hungry after free school meals, Tom Giffard MS, Shadow Education Minister, said:
“It is right that children who need a free school meal receive one, but children cannot be left to go hungry.
“The Welsh Conservatives have previously highlighted that this policy was uncosted, so it is unsurprising that the food portions are apparently small and of lower quality as councils struggle with Labour’s budget cuts.
“The spiralling cost of free school meals, which is now more than ten times higher than just a couple of years ago, should be reprioritised to reverse the Labour Government’s deep cuts to our schools.”
