Responding to the Education Cabinet Secretary’s statement on the mental health and well-being of learners for anti-bullying week, Gareth Davies MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Early Years said:
“We hear a lot of warm wards, but a lack of action from Labour ministers to address soaring levels of mental health-harming social isolation among young people.
“The data bears out increasing levels of bullying in schools, declining pupil mental health and unacceptable levels of classroom violence. It’s not good enough.
“If we don’t get this right, we will continue to see a worsening in the satisfaction levels of teachers, which of course has a knock-on effect on Welsh learners. The Labour Welsh Government really can and should do more to address these challenges, like promoting extracurricular teambuilding activities and working with social media companies.”
