Commenting on the latest data for 2025 cycle medicine applications from Wales revealing a sharp drop in applicants, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Sam Rowlands MS said:
“I am deeply disappointed at the figures coming out of UCAS for Welsh medic applications.
“Despite Welsh NHS workforce shortages and the welcome opening of a North Wales medical school in Bangor, we are still seeing significant decreases in medicine applicants.
“The Labour Welsh Government can do more. We should be promoting medicine applications for those pupils with science talents and crucially, rewarding and retaining those doctors that stay in Wales with a tuition fee refund.”
