Darren Millar MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, has criticised the Labour Government’s ineffective housing policies resulting in Wales’ worst homelessness crisis since 2015. Meanwhile, it has been revealed that a heated and powered Welsh Government office in Merthyr Tydfil, built to accommodate 450 civil servants, has hosted just 16 workers on a single day in September.
Mr. Millar, who also represents Clwyd West in the Senedd, said:
“While families face desperate circumstances and more people sleeping rough this Christmas than ever before it is outrageous that Labour’s taxpayer-funded office sits practically empty.
“This stark contrast of heating empty yet plush offices for civil servants while veterans and others are sleeping rough or in emergency accommodation this Christmas is totally unacceptable."
Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Laura Anne Jones MS, added:
"In Wales we have a housing crisis of Labour's own making with a broken planning system, not enough new homes being built, and tens of thousands of empty homes that need to be brought back into use. Only a Welsh Conservative Government will fix these problems so that everyone can have a place to call home.”
