Commenting on the announcement by the BMA Cymru Wales that new talks will begin to discuss secondary care doctors’ pay and that strikes will be suspended, Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:
“The fact that the First Minister has only now been able to find money to end the pay disputes with doctors is an insult to patients and professionals who have had to endure harmful strike action for months.
“This is not new money, it was always available to be used in this way, yet the Labour Health Minister under Drakeford and now Gething had claimed that there was no cash available to pay doctors.
“The Welsh Conservatives have been consistent in our calls for the pay review body’s recommendations to be met if not exceeded, as Labour and Plaid’s plans for extra politicians and other vanity projects are even more costly.”
