Welsh Conservatives are calling on members of the Welsh public to help shape the party’s response to Brexit.
The Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Andrew RT Davies, is holding a series of public meetings across Wales to discuss the referendum result – and he wants people from all sides of the debate to play a role in developing the party’s response.
The first event is in Brecon on Thursday 3rd November and is being co-chaired by Brecon and Radnorshire MP, Chris Davies.
Speaking ahead of the event, which is being held at the Castle Hotel, Andrew RT Davies said:
“Britain’s exit from the European Union presents Wales and the United Kingdom with significant opportunities, and we want everyone to play their part in shaping the way forward for Wales.
“There will be opportunities, and some challenges, but we need to pull together and work constructively to achieve the best possible outcome for the country.
“The first event in Brecon will focus on the future of Welsh farming, and we are looking forward to hearing from the local agricultural community.
“We have an opportunity to reinvent support for rural communities and Welsh farmers, and we have to embrace it. The CAP didn’t always fit and we need to be creative and replace it with locally-designed schemes which meet Welsh and British needs.”
Chris Davies MP said:
“In Powys, 53.7% of the public voted to leave but a significant proportion backed the alternative – which is why the next steps need to be taken in a spirit of co-operation.
“It’s important that we all play a role in that.
“This is a chance for the public to help shape the Welsh Conservative response to Brexit and we look forward to a passionate and productive debate on Thursday evening.”
