Commenting on Rachel Reeves’ pledges to “keep our pubs going”, Peter Fox MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance and Local Government said:
“Rachel Reeves cannot be trusted to protect our pubs; you just need to look at Labour-run Wales to see why.
“Reeves has promised to protect closure-threatened pubs, yet the hospitality businesses most at threat of closure are in Labour-run Wales where we have the highest business rates in Britain, over £6,000 more than in England for the average pub.
“Only the Welsh Conservatives have promised to completely reverse Labour’s tax rise by restoring business rates relief, which the Labour Welsh Government has cut from 75% to 40%, effectively doubling bills for businesses in the retail, hospitality and leisure sector.”
