Rural charities are still waiting for the £500k promised back in August by the Welsh Labour Government to help those hit by the summer droughts, according to a Written Assembly Question received today by Andrew RT Davies.
In August, the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs announced the Welsh Government would be making a donation of £500,000 to farming charities to help provide short-term support to those families in Wales who are least able to meet living costs.
However, some three months on, Lesley Griffiths told Andrew RT Davies in a WAQ that she was still considering proposals on how best to deliver funding to those in need.
Calling on the Cabinet Secretary and the Welsh Labour Government to speed up the implementation process, Andrew RT Davies AM, said:
“Yet again, we have the Welsh Labour Government dithering and failing to deliver on its promises with this support promised to rural charities some three months ago and yet to materialise.
“Back in the summer this announcement was made to much fun fare, and rightly so as the Cabinet Secretary promised help to address ‘immediate’ financial difficulties for those in need.
“However, the Welsh Government’s understanding of immediate is clearly somewhat different to mine and many charities are rightly wondering where on earth this support is.
“The Cabinet Secretary must get a grip on her department and ensure this funding is delivered without further delay.”
