Commenting on the report that Airbus plans to make 1,700 redundancies in the UK, Russell George MS – the Shadow Business and Economy Minister – said:
“This is clearly going to be very disappointing news for the employees at Broughton in North Wales and Filton in England, during what are already very uncertain times, and it follows similar recent announcements by aviation firms with operations in Wales.”
Mr George added:
“The aviation industry – both airlines and those involved in the manufacture or maintenance of aircraft – has seen a massive drop in demand, and this latest announcement goes to show how hard the global impact of the Coronavirus pandemic is being felt across all industries, even key, strategic ones such as Airbus in Wales.
“The Labour-led Welsh Government must give assurances that it will do all it can to support those immediately affected, and the many more in the supply chains.”
