The Labour-run Welsh Government has backed Welsh Conservative proposals to support communities affected by flooding.
Last week Welsh Conservatives called for:
- Business rate relief for firms with proven losses
- Greater support for local authorities to ensure that vital infrastructure is restored at the earliest opportunity
- A root and branch review of the way the A55 is managed.
After an Assembly debate, led by the Welsh Conservatives, the Welsh Government endorsed the party’s plans to examine rate relief options for affected businesses, engage more closely with farmers to prevent flooding and assess responses to adverse weather.
Janet Haworth AM, Shadow Minister for the Environment, said, “I welcome the Welsh Government’s endorsement of our proposals to support those affected by flooding and take measures to prevent future floods.
“Lessons must be learnt from the way these floods were handled to protect families, businesses and communities in future.
“This is further evidence that it’s the Welsh Conservatives, not Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour, offering new ideas and real change.”
