More patients attended A&E in Wales last month than any other on record.
99,552 attended emergency units in July, with 77.4% of them seen within the 4-hour Welsh Government target. That means around 22,000 had to wait longer than four hours.
The target to see 95% of patients within four hours has never been met in the 11 years it has been in place.
Additionally, just under 5,000 people had to wait longer than 12 hours. The Welsh Labour-led Government has said not one patient should have to wait longer than 12 hours in A&E. However, four to five thousand regularly do so.
Welsh Conservative and Shadow Health Minister Angela Burns AM, said:
“Another month, another story about our NHS being failed by the Welsh Labour Government.
“Also, it is obvious to anyone who looks that winter pressures is no longer a phrase that does justice as thousands are made to wait hours longer than they should at all times of the years.
“The record number of A&E patients shows the Welsh Government need improved preventative measures and expanded awareness of other ways to seek treatment without adding pressure to besieged emergency departments.
“This new normal and more-of-the-same culture can only come to an end when there is a change of management, and that means an end to 20 years of Welsh Labour Government.”
