Nuclear power plays an incredible role in creating well-paid and high-skilled jobs, whilst delivering cheaper, cleaner and more secure energy, working towards net-zero targets.
Time and time again, the UK Conservative Government have shown their commitment to nuclear energy, with their continued commitment to the UK’s trident deterrent, along with their commitment to deliver a new gigawatt power plant at Wlyfa in North Wales.
In the Senedd next week (19/06/24), the Welsh Conservatives are bringing forward a Senedd motion on the fantastic benefits of nuclear energy, whilst calling on the Welsh Government to work with the UK Government to expand nuclear power in Wales.
Commenting ahead of the debate, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Climate Change, Janet Finch-Saunders MS, said:
“Nuclear power plays a fantastic role in creating well-paid and high-skilled jobs, whilst delivering cheaper, cleaner and more secure energy, working towards net-zero targets.
“I welcome the incredible work carried out by Virginia Crosbie in Anglesey, along with the UK Conservative Government, boosting the nuclear sector in North Wales. When UK Government is investing in nuclear, Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru cut funding to the nuclear project in Trawsfynydd.
“In the Senedd this week, I look forward to bringing forward our Welsh Conservative debate on the fantastic benefits of nuclear energy, whilst calling on the Welsh Government to work with the UK Government to expand nuclear power in Wales.”
The motion which will be debated on Wednesday reads:
To propose that the Senedd:
1. Celebrates the role nuclear power plays in creating well-paid and high-skilled jobs, whilst delivering cheaper, cleaner and more secure energy, working towards net-zero targets.
2. Welcomes the UK Government’s continued commitment to the UK’s trident deterrent.
3. Further welcomes the UK Government’s commitment to deliver a new gigawatt power plant at Wylfa in North Wales and work with industry to deliver existing projects at Hinkley Point and Sizewell.
