Responding to Flintshire Council’s Independent Group Leader saying Welsh Government should ‘shoulder some of the blame’ for a 9% council tax rise, Sam Rowlands MS, Shadow Minister for Local Government, said:
“The Welsh Government’s underfunding of councils is having a grim impact on household budgets in Wales.
“When council tax increases hit doormats across Wales, hard-pressed residents should point the finger at the Labour Government and their funding formula which shortchanges so many councils.
“It’s time for the Labour Welsh Government to reform the funding formula, or councils will continue to be forced to balance their budgets on the backs of residents.”
