Commenting on Keir Starmer’s refusal to commit to new money for Port Talbot steel, despite previously touting a figure of £3 billion, Andrew RT Davies MS, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives said:
“Steelworkers in Port Talbot will take no comfort in Keir Starmer’s reluctance to commit to their futures.
“There is nothing ‘abstract’ about the need to support Welsh steel or the need to explain to the people of Wales how you will save jobs.
“The truth of the matter is that the Labour Welsh Government haven’t put a penny on the table for Tata since 2019 and the UK Conservative Government have fully funded a support package and transition board to support Welsh steelworkers to the tune of half a billion pounds.”
