Commenting on the news that Swansea Bay Health Board care and security ‘failings’ contributed to the killing of a father by his son after he absconded from hospital, Russell George MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:
“This is a truly tragic case, made more so by the fact that there was a chance this case could have been prevented.
“It is clear that complaints processes had to be used in an attempt to bypass long waits, endemic in Labour-run Wales and that the specific and tailored support that I have called for has not been provided by the Labour Government to the Health Board.”
In a joint statement, local Senedd Members for South Wales West, Tom Giffard MS and Dr Altaf Hussain MS added:
“This heart-wrenching case, with these new revelations of care and security failings, will rightly worry people in and around Swansea.
“We need immediate and meaningful intervention from the Labour Welsh Government to support the local health service to ensure that proper training is universal and long waits are finally cut, which is why we have submitted a topical question on this matter.”
