Commenting on the latest general practice workforce statistics for Wales revealing a reduction in the number of GP practices, GPs and full-time equivalent practitioners in Wales at the end of 2023 compared with 2022, Sam Rowlands MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister said:
“GPs are the front door to our Welsh NHS, to see their numbers fall is a sad reflection of the state of our Labour-run health service.
“To tackle the longest waiting lists in the UK here in Wales, GPs need to be supported so that they can provide the vital primary care needed for patients to be seen outside of hospitals where that is appropriate.
“The Welsh Conservatives want to see more GPs trained up and kept in Wales as part of a substantial workforce plan, but we can only achieve that if we spend every penny received for health on our Welsh NHS, which the Labour Government still isn’t.”
