Commenting ahead of the stage 3 debate today on Senedd Reform, Darren Millar MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for the Constitution said:
“This legislation represents a massive distraction from the priorities of people across Wales and undermines our democracy by severing the direct accountability of Members of the Senedd to the public..
“Wales desperately needs more doctors, dentists, nurses and teachers, not Labour and Plaid’s plans to spend millions on more politicians.
“The Welsh Conservatives have tabled many amendments to this Bill to seek to introduce a recall mechanism to promote high standards in public office, a flexible candidate-based voting system to restore accountability to the public, and most importantly an amendment that ensures that this whole vanity project be subject to a referendum so that the people of Wales can have their say.”
