Responding to a written statement from the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs on the Sustainable Farming Scheme, James Evans MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Rural Affairs Minister, said:
“Whilst I welcome the Cabinet Secretary agreeing to a round table to discuss the Sustainable Farming Scheme, this group cannot simply be a tick box exercise for the Cabinet Secretary to say he has engaged with the industry. Any recommendations that come from the group must be actioned and taken forward. I stand ready to do my part to get the changes that the industry desperately needs.”
“In the coming months, the Welsh Conservatives will come forward with a framework of a scheme we believe would work for our rural communities in Wales. We want to work in real partnership with our rural communities to develop a scheme that supports rural businesses, not hinders them. Only by working together with industry can the Welsh Government achieve its long-term goals for climate change, nature recovery and food security.”
