Common sense approach needed by Labour on 20mph

Responding to the news that more than half of motorists have kept within acceptable speed limits after the 20mph default limit began in Wales, Natasha Asghar MS, Shadow Transport Minister, said:

“The massive public opposition to this policy has only grown since its inception. Data of compliance from a handful of selected sites does not indicate public support to Labour’s wholesale approach.

“I have long said that 20mph makes sense around high footfall areas such as outside schools, hospitals, high streets and places of worship, but it makes no sense on busy trunk roads where people and traffic do not mix.

“The Welsh Conservatives would scrap Labour’s absurd 20mph speed limit scheme and adopt a targeted approach.”
