Responding to Transport for Wales’ post-20mph implementation air quality monitoring data and Welsh Government data on casualties, Natasha Asghar, Welsh Conservative Shadow Transport Minister said:
“The Welsh Conservatives support 20mph zones outside of schools and hospitals, but we are the only party in the Senedd that would scrap Labour’s £33 million policy that will hit the Welsh economy by up to £9 billion.
“20mph has done nothing to improve congestion, but increases in congestion has likely contributed to these figures and the recent pollution data bears this out, by showing pollution increasing in 50% of 20mph tested areas.
“Nearly half a million Welsh people signed a petition against the policy, the largest petition in the history of devolution. These people don’t deserve more fines, they deserve to be listened to. The Welsh Government should heed my calls to invest in road safety education schools, which Labour has so far rebuffed.”
