“Congratulations to students receiving their GCSE results today and all the staff who have worked exceedingly hard to get pupils to where they are today in the face of disruption due to the pandemic, cuts to the education budget, a change to the curriculum and a reduction in teachers.
“With further changes still to come I fear more disruption ahead for Welsh pupils, the Welsh Labour Government’s decision to scrap separate qualifications in Chemistry, Physics and Biology in favour of a double science GCSE risks putting Welsh pupils at a disadvantage to their counterparts in England and Scotland.
“As the excitement of results day passes, it is clear when you look at Labour’s record on education that Wales deserves better, the Welsh Conservatives have a plan to appropriately fund education and save Labour’s lost generation.”
Tom Giffard, added:
“It is worrying that unlike the A-Level results last week, GCSE results are down compared to pre pandemic figures. The Welsh Government must come forward with a plan to address this drop.”
