Calling on Labour-run Caerphilly County Borough Council to protect the subsidy for meals on wheels services that they plan to scrap, Peter Fox MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance and Local Government said:
“This vital service should be the last one considered for cuts, particularly given the litany of other issues faced by older people in Wales.
“The Labour UK Government has slashed winter fuel payments for pensioners and Labour in Wales is risking a widow/widower tax by not protecting the single person council tax discount.
“The Welsh Conservatives are calling on the Council and any other Councils that are considering these kinds of measures to think of the most isolated and vulnerable people of Wales and not to exacerbate economic unfairness.”
