“I am pleased that Labour are honouring the commitment from the UK Conservative Government to secure steel making in Port Talbot.
“This shows that the deal agreed by the previous UK Conservative Government was a strong one, despite Labour’s opposition to it at the time.
“Steelmaking in Wales is of vital importance, and it is now incumbent on both Labour governments to support the workforce, the community, and the wider supply chain through this transition towards electric arc steelmaking.”
Also Commenting, Welsh Conservative Regional Senedd Member for South Wales West and transition board member, Tom Giffard MS and Welsh Conservative Regional Senedd Member for South Wales West Altaf Hussain MS, added:
“This announcement will be hugely encouraging for Wales’ steel communities.
Honouring the Conservative Government’s pledge is the first step towards securing a long-term future for steel in Port Talbot.”
