“The picture surrounding FE in Wales is a challenging one, with admissions to universities at a 15 year low in Wales and a worrying trend that fewer and fewer people are also choosing apprenticeships.
“Universities have been facing a number of challenges and the 5 priorities laid out by the new Commission for Tertiary Education and Research (Medr) are very broad and lack achievable targets.
“More needs to be done to reverse these worrying trends and ensure that the next generation of doctors, engineers, carpenters and teachers choose further education when leaving school.”
