Kickstarting the Welsh economy

Our plan to kickstart the Welsh economy:

We have a plan for the Welsh economy that will create an environment that encourages businesses to invest in Wales and the people of Wales ensuring that they can provide for their families and their future.

Only with a strong economy can we invest in our vital public services that people rely on and deliver our plan. However, Labour have made it clear that for the last 25 years they do not know what they’re doing on the economy.

Wales currently has the highest business rates, the lowest level of employment and the highest economic inactivity rate in Britain.

A Welsh Conservative Government would:

  • Support business to thrive by abolishing business rates for small businesses and reform the outdated tax on growth.
  • Enable start-ups to stay local, creating a Local Business Kick Starter Fund enabling councils to directly support start-ups with funding and local mentors.
  • Boost home grown Welsh businesses, retaining young entrepreneurial talent in Wales through tapered business rate relief for five years.
  • Deliver a one-stop-shop, making it easier for business advice and investment, establishing a reformed Development Agency bringing together different organisations providing support.
  • Enable micro businesses to grow with our Jump Start Wales scheme paying employer national insurance contributions for two employees for two years.
  • Provide financial security by guaranteeing no new taxes.
  • Give local people more say over their communities, devolving more powers on economic development to councils.
  • Cut Wales’ 25% economic inactivity rate and get people back into work, delivering 30 hours of free childcare a week for children from working families from aged nine months to when they start school.

Fundamental to kickstarting the Welsh economy is ending Labour’s housing crisis, getting Wales moving again and backing our tourism sector.
