Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Angela Burns AM, has welcomed the news that the Chief Executive of Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board has resigned.
Commenting, she said:
“I’m pleased to see that Allison Williams has listened to the calls of campaigners and politicians and will now allow the health board to begin moving forward from the terrible events of recent history.
“Her resignation is far overdue, almost a year after we first learned about the terrible tragedies which unfolded under her governance.
“While I’ve long called for the resignation of the top leadership at Cwm Taf, this is ultimately a whole-board issue and so nothing should distract from further detailed review into what happened. The board owe at least that to the families devastated by the failings of these two maternity units.
“Only when a comprehensive review by the panel is completed, and due process is followed, can the health board and the maternity units of these two hospitals regain the confidence of users and safely move forward from this dark time.”
