Local Assembly Member Paul Davies has joined the campaign to end puppy farming in Wales and is calling on the Welsh Government to come forward with legislation to prohibit the practice, as soon as possible. The call comes as Lucy's Law, named after a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel that was rescued from a breeding farm in Wales, comes into action in England from April.
Mr Davies said, “It’s clear that the Welsh Government’s regulations are ineffective and across Wales there’s a serious lack of enforcement and that’s why I’m calling on the Welsh Government to bring forward legislation to end puppy farming in Wales.
Many of these dogs are living in poor conditions which is having a severe effect on their health and that’s why it’s important that legislation is brought forward sooner rather than later. Whilst I’m pleased that steps are being taken in England, it’s now vital that Wales does not fall behind other parts of the UK.”
