At First Minister’s Questions (FMQs) today, the Leader of the Welsh Conservatives put to the First Minister testimonies from the Director of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in Wales, Coroner David Regan and the Labour MP for Mid and South Pembrokeshire outlining the crisis at the heart of the Welsh NHS.
The RCN’s Helen Whyley and David Regan both highlight the unacceptable prevalence of corridor care in the Welsh NHS, with Regan stating that the practice was “becoming the norm” and Whyley calling the environment that patients were being treated in as “unsafe and undignified”.
Commenting, Leader of the Welsh Conservatives, Darren Millar MS said:
“On Labour’s watch, we’ve seen failures on all fronts. We have seen beds axed, hospitals closed and new ones promised but not delivered, and Emergency Department performance that is worse than elsewhere in Britain.
“The Welsh Labour Government has been responsible for the NHS for over 26 years, with nurses, coroners and even Labour’s own MPs critical of performance and outcomes.
“Under Labour, the Welsh NHS is broken. It’s time that they get out of the way and let the Welsh Conservatives fix it.”
He added:
“It is a shame that the First Minister continues to deny that our NHS is in a crisis, until she does there is no hope of making any significant progress.”
