Commenting on remarks made by the director of the Welsh NHS Confederation who said the NHS is on a knife-edge in terms of its ability to cope and Tough choices have to be made now to protect the health service, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Health Russell George MS said:
“It was less than two months ago when I used the same phrase as the Confederation to describe the state of health services in Labour-run Wales, because relying on the NHS here is increasingly feeling like a gamble rather than a safe bet.
“That is no fault of hard-working staff who run themselves ragged as they care for patients, but the inability at the top to manage public services well – and while this problem is UK-wide, it is acute under Labour in Wales.
“Wales will only overcome having the slowest ambulance response on record, worst A&E waits, and longest NHS treatment list in Britain by learning best practice from other UK nations making progress.
“That means the Labour Government in Cardiff Bay getting a grip on the NHS and putting in place our GP Access Plan, our NHS Tech Bundle, surgical hubs, and winter war-rooms, so patients and staff can get the support they need to turn things around.”
