Responding to the Labour Rural Affairs Minister saying farmers ‘need to change’, Sam Kurtz MS, Shadow Minister for Rural Affairs, said:
“Stating that farmers need to change, without acknowledging the good work that they are already doing in terms of sustainable food production isn’t an example of a government looking to work with the sector.
“Farmers fully understand, appreciate, and are committed to the part that they can play to continue to produce high quality food in a way that protects and improves the environment. But policy change must be done with the sector’s consent, which is missing at present.
“There have been too many examples of provocative language used by the Welsh Government of late when discussing farming. To improve the currently broken relationship, this cannot continue."
