Commenting on a Welsh Conservative Topical Question response by the Labour Cabinet Secretary for Local Government, on the news that Welsh councils will have to find at least £540 million to plug budget shortfalls, with some councils facing the possibility of bankruptcy, Peter Fox MS, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Finance and Local Government said:
“This unsustainable budget shortfall across Welsh councils will undoubtedly hit frontline services and is likely to be compounded by the Chancellor’s budget.
“Labour’s failure to rule out an employer national insurance rise will pile further pressure on to councils and by extension the Welsh taxpayer who will have to fund this additional expense.
“The Welsh Conservatives want to see the Labour Welsh Government make more financially prudent political choices, to favour the people’s priorities over pet projects like creating more politicians.”
