Responding to a BBC Wales report on the potential of a tourism tax in Wales, Welsh Conservative shadow tourism minister, Tom Giffard MS said:
“The evidence and calls against a tourism tax in Wales are mounting, and the First Minister now needs to confirm that this terrible idea is a non-starter.
“On Tuesday, Mark Drakeford championed the prospect of a tourism levy in his programme for government, but today his economy minister is attempting to distance the government from such a proposal.
“Tourism is a major employer in Wales but the mixed messaging from the Labour Government is extremely damaging for the sector when the sole focus should be on our economic recovery.
“The First Minister must clear up this mess and state exactly what Labour have planned for the tourism industry in Wales.”
