International Men’s Day 2023 is taking place on November 19th, a global observance that celebrates the positive contributions and achievements of men, while addressing important issues affecting men’s mental and physical health, along with the challenges that men face in everyday life.
Staggering, 76% of suicides in Wales are committed by men, over 35% of men think they’ve had a diagnosable mental health condition at some point in their life, whilst 1 in 4 men feel they wouldn’t be comfortable speaking to their GP or a health professional about their mental health.
In the Senedd next Wednesday (15/11/23), the Welsh Conservatives are bringing forward a Senedd motion to mark International Men’s Day by highlighting the importance of this annual event, whilst recognising the mental and physical challenges that men face.
Commenting ahead of the debate, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Wellbeing, James Evans MS said:
“With suicide being the biggest killer of men under the age of 35, it’s vitally important that we come together to mark International Men’s Day, and recognise and address the mental and physical and health challenges that men face.
“That’s why I’m proud that in the Welsh Parliament next week, the Welsh Conservatives will be holding a Senedd debate to mark International Men’s Day, and raise awareness of the issues disproportionately impacting men.”
The motion which will be debated on Wednesday reads:
To propose that the Senedd:
1. Notes that International Men’s Day 2023 is taking place on 19 November: an annual event to highlight the importance of recognising and addressing the mental and physical health challenges that men face.
