Commenting on the alarming claims from BMA Cymru, Welsh Conservative Shadow Health Minister, Russell George MS, said:
“For years we’ve been calling on the Labour Government to take decisive action to solve the staffing crisis in the Welsh NHS. But our ideas and solutions have been met with silence from Labour Ministers.
“It’s not just doctors but nurses and support staff that are urgently needed. Currently, the NHS is missing nearly 3,000 registered nurses.
“There is a cost of pain crisis in Wales, fuelled by staff shortages caused by Labour’s inaction.
“We must never forget that it was Labour’s health minister who said it was ‘foolish’ to think about post-pandemic recovery or that it was Labour that cut nearly £1 billion from the NHS budget – the only government in the UK to do so.”
