New figures reveal that homelessness remains a significant issue in Wales, with thousands still housed in temporary accommodation and little progress made in reducing the number of people sleeping rough. The Welsh Government’s own restrictive housing policies have had a detrimental impact on these figures and they must step up efforts to address the root causes of homelessness and provide sustainable solutions.
Commenting on the latest figures, Welsh Conservative Shadow Cabinet Secretary for Housing & Local Government, Laura Anne Jones MS, said:
“The latest statistics underline Labour’s disastrous record on homelessness over the past 26 years in Government.
“Behind these numbers there is a very real human cost that cannot be ignored with the number of individuals rough sleeping unchanged and the number of people in temporary accommodation remaining persistently high.
“The Welsh Labour Government must adopt more effective and sustainable approaches to address homelessness and rough sleeping, we need strategies that deliver long-term stability and comprehensive support for individuals and families affected by this crisis.”
