The Welsh Conservatives have criticised Labour ministers for refusing to take steps to help residents ascertain if neighbouring empty properties are insured. Commenting, the Welsh Conservative Minister for Housing, Janet Finch-Saunders MS said:
“I am incredibly disappointed by Labour’s refusal to even consider steps to reassure residents that neighbouring properties are insured.
“It is especially concerning to think that some empty properties may not be insured at all.
“Labour ministers need to listen to the concerns raised and end the uncertainty that many homeowners have.”
This comes following the Housing minister’s response to a letter by Janet Finch-Saunders where the minister highlighted the fact that Labour was not considering such a policy.
Currently, people in Wales are left in the dark as to if houses, especially empty properties, next to them are insured nor not.
