Commenting on the news that Wales saw the biggest slump in employment in the UK over the past year, Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for the Economy, Paul Davies MS said:
“Not only do Welsh workers get almost £3,000 less than their counterparts across the United Kingdom, but now we find out that Wales has seen the biggest slump in employment.
“Every year it becomes ever more increasingly evident that Labour have no idea what they are doing on the economy, choosing instead to treat businesses across the country as cash cows.
“Labour ministers must abandon their relentless raids on businesses and look to provide an environment where hard work and an entrepreneurial spirit can flourish.”
Figures released by the ONS show that, at 1.8%, Wales saw the largest fall in employment in Wales.
This is in stark contrast to the United Kingdom where the employment rose by 0.2%. Employment also rose across the United Kingdom with the employment rate in England rising by 0.2%, Scotland by 1.1% and Northern Ireland by 3.3%.
